KARACHI: Imdad Phulpoto, SAMAA’s station head in Sukkur, was released on Thursday evening, hours after being brutally tortured and abducted by police from his home.

Dozens of police personnel, unaccompanied by lady police, barged into the house of Phulpoto at 8am this morning.

Imdad and members of his family were vehemently tortured before he was whisked away. Imdad had done several stories exposing Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah.

Recently, he has revealed that some favorite local contractors have been given advance payment by the government.

Journalists protested his abduction in different cities including Sukkur, Umarkot and Nawabshah and demanding his immediate release.

Karachi Press Club President Siraj Ahmed also condemned the abduction of the Samaa reporter.

Speaking to SAMAA after his release, Imdad Phulpoto said that he was severally tortured and paraded in the city, and wasn't even allowed to put on his shoes.

Phulpoto said that his brother, a commissioned officer and a cousin were also picked up by the police and tortured.  "I wasn't asked anything by the police. They just kept torturing me."

He revealed that he was asked to sign a blank paper, but he refused. The footage showed blood spot on Imdad's shirt. - SAMAA
