Supreme Court of Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear the landmark case of Panama Leaks today (Thursday) on constitutional petitions by Imran Khan and Sheikh Rashid among others.

A larger five-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan is hearing the case with several ministers, lawyers of petitioners, senior PTI leaders and media in attendance.

On the occasion, strict security arrangements have been made by the apex court itself for proper court decorum and smooth hearing of the case in courtroom number one.

Due to limited seating capacity, the court administration has announced that the entry would be regulated through special security passes.

Only the petitioners or respondents whose cases are fixed in court, will be allowed to enter the premises. However, advocates and journalists, who regularly come for the Supreme Court proceedings, will be exempted.

The highlight of previous hearing was the apex court’s decision to appoint a probe commission that convinced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to turn his desperate Islamabad lockdown protest in D-Day to Thank God.

The bench signaled the inquiry commission will be headed by a judge laced with powers of the Supreme Court.

The court also summoned the government and petitioners to produce their respective Terms of Reference (TORs) as parameters for the inquiry panel. If the parties fail to present the consensus TORs, the court said it will take on itself to harmonize them to which the parties will have to agree to.

However, the legal circles are heard raising the question of the court’s jurisdiction in this regard.

Sensing the criticality of the matter, the court also made up its mind to hold hearings on a daily basis.  –SAMAA
