Fog, smog continue to disrupt life in Punjab

LAHORE: Dense and shallow patches of fog and smog continued to blanket Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions where people have been complaining of breathing difficulties and irritable eyes for last few days.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says the foggy and smoggy conditions will die down after rain; however, dry weather is expected in most parts of the country for next couple of days.

PMD said northwestern upper parts, including Lower Dir, Saidu Sharif and Malam Jabba received rain yesterday, with light snowfall in Skardu, Hunza and Kalat, bringing down the mercury to freezing point.

Today, Motorway M-2 was closed for five hours from Lahore to Sial More due to dense fog. Similarly, M-3 was also closed for traffic from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad where visibility was zero in the morning. M-4 has also been closed from Faisalabad to Gojra.

Next 24 hrs:

Rain-thunderstorm with snow over the high mountains is expected at a few places of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Smoggy and foggy conditions are expected over plain areas of Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur and Sukkur divisions during morning/evening.

Next 48 hrs:

Mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. Smoggy/foggy conditions are expected to prevail over plain areas of Punjab.

Past weather:

Weather remained dry in most parts of the country. However, rain occurred in Malakand division. Foggy conditions prevailed in plain areas of Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions.
