KARACHI: A retired worker of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of Civic Center in Karachi on Monday, police said.
Iqbal, son of Qasim Ali and a resident of Mansehra Colony in the Quaidabad area, retired from KMC in 1999, Samaa reported.
According to initial reports, the 63-year-old retiree had not received his pension for several months.
However, the motive behind the suicide is yet to be confirmed.
Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra told Samaa Iqbal did not kill himself due to non-payment of pension as his pension payments had been cleared.
According to KMC officials, cheques worth Rs 740 million have been readied for 1,330 workers on the orders of the Sindh High Court. However, the workers have not been paid due to limited funds available with the KMC. – SAMAA
