ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Monday served PTI information secretary Naeemul Haq with Rs 1 billion legal notice for accusing her of leaking news regarding a high-level meeting.

The notice read that the accusation has been broadcast on different news channels. It said the accusation against Maryam is defamatory, false, scandalous, mala fide, untrure, without any evidence.

Maryam, through her legal notice, asked the PTI leader to tender unconditional apology and withdraw the accusation.

Yesterday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had said that there is a consensus between the civilian and military leadership that whoever leaked the ‘false story’ of a high-level meeting should be exposed.

In a media breifing, Nisar said that on the basis of initial probe he can say that there is no record as to who leaked the story.

He said Pervez Rashid did not make any attempt to stop news story from being published.

“Pervez Rashid should have told the journalist concerned that the news is incorrect and this should not be published in the national interest… and upon resistance he could have asked, Zafar Abbas (the editor of the newspaper), not to run the story,” Nisar said.
