KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved uplifting of the look of Jinnah Terminal and has said that Karachi is the biggest and beautiful city of the country but it look right from Jinnah terminal to Metropole and surrounding areas is quite gloomy and needs to be improved tremendously.
This he said while presiding over a special meeting on beautification and development of Shahrah-e-Faisal to Metropole here at the CM House Friday, said a statement.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) M. Waseem, Principal secretary to CM Naveed Kamran Baloch, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi and Architect Yawar jilani.
Architect Yawar Jilani briefing the CM Sindh said that the flyover constructed on the Shahrah-e-Faisal at Jinnah terminal has further blinded the look of the terminal.
On this the CM Sindh said that when a person come down from the Jinnah terminal towards Shahrah-e-Faisal get very poor look. “First impression is last impression, therefore it must be beautified,” he said.
The architect told the CM Sindh that when Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had convened Islamic Summit he had beautified the look of the airport (now known old terminal).
A star keeping in view the Islamic architecture was built on the main turning to the airport. The Star was designed and made by leading artist Gul Jee.
He proposed to shift the Star installed at the Star gate towards Jinnah Terminal and install it on the alleviated location to make it visible even from far flung areas.
This star has historical importance and memories of the Islamic Summit, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shah Faisal, therefore it must be preserved in a more decent way, Murad Ali Shah said.
Yawar Jilani showed some designs under which right from Jinnah Terminal to the Shahrah-e-Faisal landscapes, greenery and screens were shown installed giving a most beautiful look of the area. It was decided that it would be beautified right from Jinnah Terminal to Metropole.
Another beautification plan was also discussed for face uplifting of Merry Weather Towner and turn some of its areas as pedestrians.
Under the plan the I.I Chundrigar Road would be upgraded, beautified by restoring old buildings, including City station and its historical barracks. The project would be done under World Bank Assistance. – APP
