LAHORE: Blacklisted US citizen Matthew Barrett has been deported from Pakistan.

He was brought to Lahore from Islamabad last night from where he was deported back to New York on PIA flight PK711, officials said.

Matthew Barrett had arrived in Pakistan after obtaining a visa from the Pakistani consulate in Houston on false information.

He has been on the blacklist in Pakistan for attempting a fraudulent entry into the country in 2011 and was deported after being found in the Fateh Jang area near a highly secretive military research facility.

According to reports, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency arrested Barrett from a guesthouse in Islamabad on the 6th of August.

The judicial decision to deport Barrett came from the Rawalpindi court.

According to sources, this was the second time Matthew Barrett had visited Pakistan under a false name.

Sarfaraz Hussain, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry said the interior minister has ordered a thorough inquiry into how Barrett managed to enter Pakistan again and has also suspended the airport immigration staff. --SAMAA
