ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first ever motorcycle cab service was launched in Islamabad.
Initially launched in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the ‘Cargar’ service aims to reduce carbon footprints by providing a motorbike-taxi service.
“Cargar is an innovative start-up aiming to provide customers with smart solutions to over-charging, traffic congestion and intensifying of carbon footprints.”
“With this service, you’ll experience secure, inexpensive and efficient transport which shall not only reinvigorate the road infrastructure of twin cities but also reduce civic issues,” a statement on their website said.
It works through an app-based system much like the Careem and Uber services that have made their way in Pakistan.
For now, it has a taxi point at the G-9 and F-8 Kachehry Metro Stations and charges Rs15 per kilometer and an extra Rs20 for service charges.
To maximize the safety of the passengers, Cargar has made it necessary to wear a helmet during the ride.
The service is the brainchild of Farhan Ahmed, a graduate from NUST and a software engineer by trade.
The motorcycle taxi service was started in China in the late 1980s and was adopted by many countries for economical travel and controlling traffic.– SAMAA
