ISLAMABAD: Azadi Train is all prepared to be formally launched today (Thursday) from Islamabad Margalla Station. The journey will take off from Peshawar on Friday and will reach Karachi on the 5th of next month. It will reach completion at Golra Railway Station on the 13th of August.
Giving details at a news briefing at the Railway Carriage Factory in Islamabad, Managing Director Pakistan Railways Muhammad Yousaf said Minister for Railways Khawaja Saaed Rafique and Minister for Information will be launching the train at a special ceremony.
Invitation to seventy Islamabad-based foreign diplomats has also been issued for the event, which is part of the Independence Day celebrations.
According to him, the month-long journey by Azadi Train will cover more than fifty cities across all the four provinces.
The train will stay overnight at sixteen stations including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Samma Sata, Sukkur, Sibi, Quetta, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, Karachi, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dera Ghazi Khan and Kundian Station.
The Azadi Train is a customized commemorative train prepared through the joint efforts of Pakistan Railways, Ministry of Information Broadcasting and National Heritage and Inter Services Public Relations.
Six out of eighteen coaches of Azadi train have floats projecting the culture of four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
Other six coaches are dedicated to the history of Pakistan, Kashmir Movement, achievements and sacrifices of Armed Forces, development projects and History of Pakistan Railways.
Remaining six coaches are attached for operational and administrative purposes.--APP
