KARACHI: A notification regarding extension to Rangers special policing powers will be issued next week as matters between Sindh government and the paramilitary force have been tackled on Friday.
It should be mentioned here that Sindh government seemed reluctant to sanction the new lease to Rangers powers following a couple of actions the paratroopers undertook, especially the recent one at the residence of Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Khan Siyal in Larkana.
However, the consecutive meetings held at Bilawal House and Chief Minister House Karachi at last came to fruition in resolving the issue as by Karachi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar played a pivotal role.
Corps Commander Karachi Calls On CM Qaim
Corps Commander Karachi Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar met Qaim Ali Shah at CM House and discussed certain issues such as targeted operation in Karachi, law and order situation, implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) and extension of powers of the Rangers in Sindh.
The meeting lasted over one and half hour in a good atmosphere. Senior Minister for Finance Murad Ali Shah, Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and Chief Minister’s advisor on law Murtaza Wahab also joined the meeting a little later, according to a statement.
The CM Sindh said that his government was committed to eradicate terrorism related activities such as targeted killing, extortion and kidnapping for ransom from the province.
‘I appreciate law enforcement agencies, particularly the police and Rangers in restoration of peace in the city,” he said and also thanked the Corps Commander Karachi for taking his personal interest in implementation of National Action Plan.
The CM Sindh and Corps Commander also discussed the issue of extension of the power of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh.
The CM Sindh assured the Corps Commander that he was in consultation with his party leadership and the matter would be solved shortly.
Bilawal Meets CM Qaim
Discussing matters with Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah in a yesterday’s meeting at Bilawal House, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari raised eyebrows over the Rangers action in Larkana, saying, “What happened all of a sudden that necessitated Rangers action in the city?”
On this occasion, the young chairman called upon the chief minister to resolve the issue regarding extension to the Rangers powers in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
Meantime, top echelon of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership is slated to put various matters on table in Dubai as Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had already reached the venue.
Bilawal also left for Dubai today to attend the vital meeting; while, CM Qaim and others will leave tomorrow. –SAMAA
