PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak has constituted a nine-member committee to oversee issues of transgender community in the province.
According to a notification issued earlier this month, Special Assistant to CM on Information Mushtaq Ghani would lead the committee, which also included president of KP’s Transgender Association Farzana.
The move comes a month after transgender activist was shot dead in Peshawar.
Alesha had received eight bullet wounds and was shot at point blank near Asia Plaza in the provincial capital.
Following the attack, Alesha was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital. However, the hospital authorities could not decide where to place her, thereby delaying the urgent medical care she needed.
The matter came under the notice of Khyber Pakhtunkha Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who visited Alesha at the hospital on Monday and directed the hospital authorities to place her in a private room. However, Alesha’s condition continued to deteriorate, killing her eventually.
Also, Khyber Pakthunkhwa government set aside a special fund of Rs200 million for the welfare of transgender community in the budget for fiscal year 2016-17. –Samaa
