‘Good summer monsoon rainfall’ predicted near Eid: PMD

KARACHI: A “good summer monsoon rainfall” is expected in the country in the coming months, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in a statement.

The PMD Director General Ghulam Rasool told Samaa light showers are expected in Karachi following June 27. It is predicted the weather will be pleasant on Eid as well.

According to the organisation, summer monsoon rainfall is likely to be 10-20% above normal over the country, averaged for three months.

More than average rainfall is expected over Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, AJK and Northeast Balochistan.

PMD also warned of some extreme rainfall events in the catchment areas of major rivers and other parts of the country which may cause floods.

It further warned of heavy downpour events that may produce urban flooding in the larger metropolises.

However, PMD also said it will update the afore-mentioned information within the first week of every month, starting July.

In the next 24 hours

Hot weather conditions are likely in most parts of Pakistan during the day time on Wednesday.

However, rain and thunderstorms with strong gusty winds are expected in scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan, FATA, Islamabad and Kashmir.

It is expected to rain at isolated places in Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G Khan, Quetta, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Sukkur, Larkana divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan in the evening and/or night time. – SAMAA
