‘PM must quit after losing moral authority’

KARACHI: As international media reported resignation of Spain’s industry minister over Panama Papers, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, renewed his call for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down, Samaa reported Friday.

Khan’s demand came minutes after media reported that Spain’s industry minister Jose Manuel Soria has announced to step down over allegations he had links to offshore companies.

“Spanish minister resigns in wake of Panama Leaks & no inquiry committee was needed as he lost all moral authority to hold the position… Why doesn’t our PM realise that in a democracy once a PM loses moral authority he cannot hold that office?” Khan said through his verified Twitter account.

Yesterday, Khan arrived in London where he reiterated his demands about investigation into Sharif family’s alleged offshore assets.

PM Nawaz Sharif is in London for what Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said “a long over-due medical treatment.” He said Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan on his doctor’s advice.

The PM has been under tremendous pressure from opposition parties to step down since his family members were named in the mass leak of offshore account data from the Panama firm Mossack Fonseca. – Samaa
