KARACHI: MQM MPA Bilquis Mukhtar on Wednesday announced her decision to join Mustafa Kamal’s newly-launched Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).
She made the announcement at a press conference along with PSP leaders Mustafa Kamal, Anis Advocate, Anees Qaimkhani and others.
“I have decided to part ways with the MQM and also resign as member of Sindh Assembly,” she said.
Bilquis is the second MPA to join Mustafa Kamal’s group. Iftikhar Alam, a Sindh lawmaker from Azizabad, also quit the MQM and joined the PSP.
Speaking on this occasion, Mustafa Kamal welcomed the woman lawmaker in his party. “We congratulate Bilquis Mukhtar for joining our caravan,” Kamal said.
“We haven’t come to Pakistan to target any particular party or its supporters. People from across Pakistan are joining our party on their own,” he said.
Kamal said that people had voluntarily started working for PSP in their respective areas.
The former Karachi mayor continued his criticism on MQM founder Altaf Hussain. “I am still ready to sacrifice my life for Altaf Hussain if he shares his political objective,” he said.
He said that MQM workers were being respected by the party’s leadership ever since he launched his political party. “MQM people should at least give the credit that they are being shown more respect due to us,” he said.
Kamal also dispelled the impression that his party was being backed by the Establishment.
“Nine Zero would have been closed by now if we had any support from the establishment,” he maintained. – SAMAA
