LAHORE: Punjab IT Board (PITB) Chairman Dr Umar Saif has said that nearly 250,000 applications for Hajj have been received through online system devised by the PITB in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs so far.

Addressing a meeting held at Arfa Software Technology Park to review the system on Monday, he said: “The transparent balloting will be held at Islamabad on April 29, 2016 in which 83,440 lucky applicants would be selected to perform Hajj under government scheme this year.”

He said across the country, 6,280 branches of designated banks, connected to the online registration system, have been receiving applications since April 18, 2016, adding that the tracking bracelet or locket would be connected to the main  ashboard enabling it to locate the position of each pilgrim round-the-clock.

Dr Saif said that after Government Hajj Scheme balloting, the process of online registration for Private Hajjaj would be started within a month.

The government of Pakistan has allocated 40 percent quota under Private Hajj Scheme to benefit 57,347 pilgrims and the online registration system will be same as for the government scheme through Hajj Group Organizers across Pakistan, he added.

He said that the PITB would also set up helpline for the pilgrims both at Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, adding, they might use the helpline to get any information about training, flight schedules, lost luggage and residence details.- APP
