LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought assistance from Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) and Advocate General Punjab on a petition seeking directions to amend Article 175 of the Constitution for renaming Lahore High Court as Punjab High Court.
Justice Shahid Waheed passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by Advocate Javed Rasheed Mehboobi.
The petitioner’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that Sindh High Court and Balochistan High Court were named after the respective provinces whereas Lahore High Court and Peshawar High Court were named after the respective provincial capitals in Article 175 of the Constitution.
He pleaded the court to issue directions for amending the Article 175 to rename Lahore High Court as Punjab High Court and Peshawar High Court as KPK High Court.
He also pleaded the court to issue directions for transfer of control of federal courts to the respective high courts as per decisions of the Apex Court.
He further asked the court to order implementation on the Apex Court orders regarding administration and financial autonomy of the sub-ordinate courts.
On this,the court observed that many important law points had been raised through the petition and it needed consideration.
The court seeking assistance from the attorney general and advocate general adjourned the hearing for three weeks. – APP
