Peshawar: 10 killed in suicide attack on security troops

PESHAWAR: At least 10 people were killed and more than 30 others injured in a suicide attack on security forces in Peshawar, Samaa reported Tuesday.

Security officials said a suicide bomber blew himself up outside Khasadar Force check post on Jamrud Road bordering Khyber Agency.

According to medics, at least ten people were killed and more than 30 others wounded, with many in critical condition.

The victims were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex where emergency was declared.

Sources said Line Officer of the Khasadar Force, Nawab Afridi, was target of the attacker, adding that the blast also left a local journalist Mehmoob Afridi dead.

Bomb disposal squad collected evidences from the scene as security forces kicked off a search operation in the area.

Sources told Samaa correspondent that the suicide bomber was riding a motorbike, before blowing himself up close to Khasadar Force personnel at their check post.

Initial investigation into the attack found that 10 to 14 kg explosive material was used in the blast that was so powerful that it damaged several bikes and a couple of vehicles parked near the check post.

Sources said the bomb disposal squad has recovered head and other body parts of the bomber.

Bodies Recovered

Earlier, four bodies of men packed in sacks were recovered from city’s Malagori-Warsak road by police. Officials said hands and feet of the victims, who were apparently aging between 20 and 28, were tied with ropes.

Police claimed the victims belonged to Khyber Agency, adding that no signs of torture were found on the bodies.   - Samaa
