KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Karachi Mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar and 17 others in a case pertaining to Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain’s provocative speech against the security forces.

During today’s proceeding, investigation officer told the court that the accused could not be arrested in the case.

The ATC issued arrest warrants of 18 MQM leaders, including the party chief, for allegedly facilitating or delivering provocative speech against paramilitary Rangers, which are carrying out targeted operation against criminal elements in Karachi after all political parties resolved to root out crime from the city.

Earlier, the court had already issued warrants of MQM leaders Waseem Akhtar, Farooq Sattar, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and other accused in all the cases against them.

Last month, a court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant of the Karachi Mayor-designate in a case against ex-petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain, who is facing charges of providing medical aid to terrorists in his hospital. –Samaa
