ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday granted Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) 14-day physical remand of three suspects in custody of (FIA) in the Dr. Imran Farooq murder case.

The accused including Moazzam Ali Khan, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali were not produced before the ATC-I Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi after expiry of the seven-day remand due to security risk.

During the proceedings, the FIA officials requested for extension in the physical remand but the bench rejected it while directing them to produce the suspects before the court for obtaining remand.

Later on, the accused presented before the court in high level security with Ranger personnel to get the remand which was granted.

It is pertinent to mention here that, earlier FIA registered a case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and other party leaders for their alleged involvement in the 2010 murder of Dr Imran Farooq who was murdered near his apartment in Green Lane, Edgware, in September 2010.

Moazzam, who had allegedly facilitated Farooq's killers, was arrested from Karachi while Khalid and Mohsin were arrested by the Balochistan Frontier Corps from Chaman, a town bordering Afghanistan. - APP
