Shahbaz renews power pledges on Bhikki hopes

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab government was setting up 1,180 megawatt gas based Bhikki Power Plant in Sheikhupura from its own resources.

Addressing the stone laying ceremony of gas based Bhikki Power Plant at Bhikki, Sheikhupura, on Friday, he said that although the Punjab government had made investment on this project but this national project would supply electricity to the whole country.

He said this project would strengthen the efforts for removing darkness of load shedding and eliminating energy crisis.

He said that some political parties through media had been making propaganda against China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Sometime they term CPEC heavy loans and sometime false projects but work had been started speedily on the projects and those making propaganda had been silenced, the chief minister added.

He said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had made planning to remove load shedding from the country two years ago and this was an important and biggest step in this journey.

He said that under the prime minister, work was being carried out on energy projects in various parts of the country including 1,320 megawatt coal based projects in Sahiwal, solar project in Bahawalpur, Port Qasim and Thar.

The chief minister said that the economic package of billions of dollars by China reflected the confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and love with the people of Pakistan by Chinese leadership and government.

He said that due to policies of the prime minister, confidence of foreign investors had increased and local and foreign investors were again investing in Pakistan.

The chief minister said that NEPRA had also fixed 0.8 million dollars per megawatt cost for the gas power plant but the Punjab government had acquired the rate of 466,000 dollars per megawatt which was a great achievement.

He said that leading companies of the world including General Electric, Harbon, Siemens, Mitsubishi, China Power, Hyundai and INKA of Turkey took part in the bidding process for Bhikki Power Plant which had been completed in a very transparent manner.

He said that Bhikki Power Plant would be completed in the end of 2017 and 1180 megawatt electricity would be added to the national grid.

The chief minister expressed hope that darkness of load-shedding would be eliminated and unemployment would be ended from the country.

He thanked Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and secretaries of these departments, Punjab Cabinet and others for extending full cooperation for the project.

Du Yun, President Chinese Company, Herban Electric working on the project addressing the function said that the efforts of the chief minister Punjab and his team were laudable.

He assured that Bhikki Power Plant would be completed in stipulated period and modern technology would also be transferred to Pakistan through this project.

President General Electric Company addressing the function said that Bhikki Power Plant was a milestone in energy sector of Pakistan.

Federal and Provincial Ministers, Members National Assembly, intellectuals, columnists, energy experts, officials of companies working on the project and a large number of people were present on the occasion. –APP
