HAFIZABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for vice chairman of a union council in Punjab’s Hafizabad town was booked in a FIR on charges of ransacking local office of Returning Officer (RO), Samaa reported Wednesday.

According to Samaa correspondent, Rai Shehbaz and his supporters stormed RO’s office after the election commission official declared him ineligible for contesting local bodies’ elections.

Police claimed the PTI candidate and his supporters tortured the RO and vandalized the official record.

The incident prompted the government office staff, associated with All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA), to go on district-wide strike and stage protest outside local DCO’s office.

Police says a FIR was registered against 21 people, including local PTI leaders, of them four has been arrested. – Samaa
