PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) is leading the NA-19 Haripur by-election by a mind-bending margin dashing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) political pipe dreams to smithereens, Samaa reported.
According to unofficial results received so far, with 1,33, 730 votes to his credit PMLN candidate Babar Nawaz Khan is the man of the moment while his main contender PTI's Raja Amir Zaman is lagging far behind with 87, 780 votes.
Earlier, vote count in NA-19 Haripur started after a smooth polling day.
About 577,480 registered voters, including 259,319 women exercised their right to vote.
It is for the first time that biometric system was introduced on experimental basis on 30 polling stations.
Nine candidates including PMLN's Babar Nawaz Khan, PTI's Raja Amir Zaman, Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) Tahir Qureshi, and independents were in the run for the seat.
According to police control, Haripur, around 2000 officials of the security forces, and around 13000 policemen along with more than 20 platoons of FC were deployed for the security of 513 polling stations.--SAMAA/Agencies
