Firdous in search of Muhammad Bin Qasim?

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Sialkoti stalwart Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan is out looking for another Muhammad Bin Qasim, the teenage Umayyad general who conquered the Sindh and Multan regions along the Indus River after defeating a tyrant ruler Raja Dahir in 711 AD, Samaa reported.

“I have come to Sindh in search of a saviour who could rescue the oppressed partisans of the PPP from the unabated political persecution at the hands of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PMLN) 'Raja Dahirs' in Punjab,” the PPP heavyweight told reporters here.

The PPP was as much a victim of double-standardism as it was of skewed policymaking, said the bespectacled former information minister, whose shedding tears like a soapstar on the floor of National Assembly while resigning from the aforementioned portfolio still amuse a lot.

“The PPP is like an orphan in Punjab. It has become a derelict. No one cares about the party’s chapter in the most populous province of the Pakistan,” Awan said adding,” It is for the first time the PPP is in power and opposition at the same time.”

Vowing a ‘revival’, she said the PPP would have to become a ‘people’s party’ once again which demands some drastic measures.

“The PPP doesn’t need homeopathic pills but a major surgery to get back on the track,” Awan said without putting a fine point on it.

To a question, Awan said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had been brought into the loop of this situation because it was so serious.

“Party chairman is aware of our reservations. Action has been promised. We do not want to become a sub-party of PMLN in Punjab,” said she.

The Muhammad bin Qasim, Firdous Ashiq Awan is looking for is none other than the young scion of Bhutto family, Bilawal, but she should know that the ornamental puppet chairman’s strings are pulled by his father Asif Ali Zardari, who some analysts say is no less than Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, the Ibn Qasim’s alleged nemesis.
