Pakistan to mourn Safoora tragedy today

KARACHI: Pakistan’s national flag will fly at half mast today (Thursday) as the grieving nation mourns Safoora Carnage to express solidarity with the victims. The trade organizations across Sindh have already called for cessation of all commercial activities.

Earlier on Wednesday hours after the gun attack, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced to observe a day of mourning today over the tragic incident that left at least 45 people dead early Wednesday. All the deceased hailed from Ismaili community.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain also appealed to traders and transporters to keep their activities suspended in grief for the victims of Wednesday’s terrorist attack.

All examinations that were scheduled today in University of Karachi and Urdu University, have been postponed. New dates will be made public later.

Meantime, Sindh senior minister for education Nisar Khuhro announced to keep educational institutions open in the province; but, the private schools and the parents are on tenterhooks about the decision. –SAMAA
