PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) senior leader, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, was handed over to police on one-day physical remand on charges of a PTI worker's murder in Nowshera town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Saturday’s local bodies election, Samaa reported Sunday.
According to Samaa correspondent, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, who is former Information Minister of KPK, was arrested by police and a case of murder and attempted murder was registered against him when a worker of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was killed during celebratory fire.
A man Khan Sher lodged an FIR of murder and attempted murder against Mian Iftikhar, claiming that the ANP leader ordered his guards to open fire at PTI rally when it was passing past his residence in Nowshera’s Pabbi Bazaar.
Following registration of FIR at Pabbi police station, police raided Mian Iftikhar's residence and arrested him. Receiving the report of his arrest, a large number of ANP workers and leaders reached the police station.
Mian Iftikhar was produced in a local court where he denied all charges, claiming that PTI supporters attacked on his life.
“I was at my office with my colleagues when I heard PTI’s celebratory firing. They also damaged my bullet-proof vehicle parked outside the office, but we did not react. Police and Rangers rescued me from my office after PTI supporters attacked on me… I can’t even think of killing anybody. The youngsters are like my children,” he said.
The court later remanded him into police custody for one day. – Samaa
