ISLAMABAD: Dismissing the protesting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demand, the provincial members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have decided not to resign from their posts, sources said.
Earlier this month, PTI representatives met newly elected chief election commissioner Sardar Raza Khan and expressed confidence in him. The PTI delegation, however, said that they don’t trust other members of the ECP.
Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah also endorsed the PTI demand that ECP members should resign.
According to sources, the members of ECP are of the view that they were not involved in rigging in last year's general elections and their resignations would prove that rigging allegations were true.
Sources quoted ECP members as saying that if any person has objection, he can move the Supreme Judicial Council, which they added is the only forum which can sack the members of commission.
The ECP members further stated that PTI’s objections have no ‘constitutional basis’, sources said.
The members of the commission further said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is taking revenge from the ECP members over Waheeda Shah case, they added. -Samaa
