KARACHI: Mahrukh Siddiqui, a female reporter of Samaa TV was misbehaved with by the state-run National Institute of Child Health (NICH) staff while reporting yesterday’s death of four infants in the hospital incubators.

Siddiqui was stopped by the NICH staff when she tried to expose the truth behind the tragic incident that claimed four innocent children’s lives after the hospital's incubator stopped working.

One of the staff members was caught on camera while snatching the reporter's mobile phone and forcing the cameraman to stop recording. The rude NICH staffer created chaos in the hospital, stopping the media team from covering the incident.

Key political leaders of PPP, MQM, PTI condemned the incident, terming it as an attack on media freedom.

Despite the tragedy, there was a lack of oxygen supply in the medical facility yesterday as well and many children remained critical. Samaa TV's reporter said that power supply to the institute remained suspended since this morning.

However, K-Electric company spokesman Osama Qureshi said the Pole Mounted Transformer (PMT) that supplies power to NICH is exempted from loadshedding. – SAMAA
