ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of killing of eight Hazara community members in Quetta, Samaa reported Thursday.
Vehemently condemning the incident, the PM directed authorities to ensure security of Hazara community as well as law-and-order situation in Quetta city.
Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik, also took notice and ordered provincial authorities to further tighten the security measures.
Meanwhile, Shia organizations – Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM) and Shia Ulema Council – announced three-day mourning against the killings.
Earlier today, gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying Hazara community members in Hazar Ganji area on the outskirts of Quetta, killing eight of them, just days ahead of the holy month of Muharram.
The Islamic month of Muharram is due to begin on Saturday or Sunday.
At least 24 Hazara pilgrims were killed in June when their bus was targeted by suicide bombers in a remote area of Balochistan. Two devastating bombings in Quetta killed nearly 200 people last year. – Samaa/AFP
