ECP all set for Multan by-polls

MULTAN: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalised its preparations for Thursday’s by-elections on National Assembly constituency, NA-149 Multan II, vacated by senior politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Samaa reported Tuesday.

Officials said ballot boxes and other relevant stationary has been dispatched to polling stations, with authorities announcing public holiday on the voting day.

Section-144, which prohibits public gatherings, have been imposed for one day in the district where more than 80 polling stations, out of 286, have been declared sensitive.

Rangers will be deployed at the sensitive polling stations.

The polling will start at 9am on Oct 16.

Javed Hashmi is contesting the polls with a silent support of ruling PML-N against an independent candidate, Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar, who is being backed by PTI. The PPP has not fielded its candidate in the fray. – Samaa
