KARACHI: At least eight people drowned at Sea View on Wednesday as they went to the beach to celebrate Eid ul Fitr on the second day of annual festival.

According to rescue officials, at least five people, children, among them have been rescued alive.

Thousands of people turned up at city beaches to celebrate the festival despite the imposition of Section 144 which prohibits gathering of four or more people.

All eight people who drowned have been pulled out of the water and were shifted to Jinnah Hospital via Police Mobile.

“Red flags have been placed to point out unsafe locations, but people are ignoring the warning, leading to the deaths,” a senior police officer told SAMAA. – SAMAA
