KARACHI: Additional Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo took notice of SAMAA’s story that unveiled malpractice of a police, who was minting money from the bereaved families over custody of bodies of their relatives.
Talking to SAMAA, Ghulam Qadir Thebo said the investigations had been initiated against the police inspector Iqbal who was exacting Rs.1500 from the bereaved families. The police official said Iqbal has been summarily suspended, he added.
It should be mentioned here that the policeman demanded money from the bereaved families in order to deliver them the bodies of their relatives, who drowned at Sea View beach.
According to Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui, at least 21 of 23 bodies have been recovered; the search for the remaining two is still in progress. –SAMAA
