Staff ReportPARACHINAR: At least ten people died and 40 others were injured when a powerful blast ripped through a busy market place in Parachinar area of the Kurram tribal agency bordering Afghanistan, SAMAA reported.Security officials say the blast took place in Kashmir Chowk in Parachinar town this afternoon. They said the bomb was planted in a vehicle parked in the market.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.”A large number of people were present in the market when the blast took place,” an official told SAMAA.”Most of those killed and injured were the poor people selling vegetable and fresh fruits on their push-carts,” he said.
Paramilitary troops cordoned off the area while the injured were shifted to district headquarter hospital by locals and the security men.The death toll may rise as some of the injured are said to be in critical state, medics said.An army offensive has been underway in the tribal area, including Bajaur, Khyber, South Waziristan and other agencies to eliminate militant groups loyal to Taliban and Al Qaida. — SAMAA
