Staff ReportDG KHAN: Heavy rains lashed Dera Ghazi Khan and Sialkot districts of Punjab on Friday sweeping away various bridges and inundating dozens of villages, SAMAA reports.Monsoon rains that triggered flash flooding in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir have caused dozens of deaths over the past five days.Hundreds of people living in villages around Wador nullah in DG Khan were evacuated after hill torrents from the Suleman mountains range swept away bridges and mud plastered homes.The locals managed to set up a makeshift barrier, but of no avail as water continued to gush out from breaches, inundating scores of villages and crops.Ground links of the DG Khan with rest of the Punjab were cut off. The district administration has started rescue operation.An under construction bridge on Kachhi Canal near Kaleri was also damaged in the floods which also swept away machinery and construction material.Rainwater also deluged more than eight villages in Sialkot following breaches in dyke of Palkho nullah.Rain batters Khuzdar town in BalochistanIn Balochistan, the late spell of the monsoon rain also battered Khuzdar and its adjoining areas on Thursday evening, damaging scores of houses and destroying standing crops over vast areas.Floodwater entered Jafarabad, Khattan and other nearby towns after heavy downpour damaged a flood protective embankment. No loss of life, however, was reported.The late monsoon rains also affected wheat crops and cut off ground links of Khuzdar with rest of the province.More rains are likely in Balochistan within couple of days as monsoon currents are penetrating in upper parts of the country. – SAMAA
