Staff ReportKARACHI: About 99 percent dengue cases of Sindh have emerged in Karachi but the KMC is facing acute financial crunch to run dengue prevention spray campaign in the metropolis, SAMAA reported on Friday.According to Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell (SDSC), till date total 165 patients have been tested positive of dengue virus and out of those 164 patients belong to Karachi and only one to interior Sindh.Sindh Health Department has issued instructions for dengue prevention spray around houses and areas of dengue afflicted patients but till date only 28 patients’ houses and areas have been sprayed. It is very alarming that there are only 24 vehicles available to run anti-dengue spray campaign in the metropolis comprising population of over 20 million people.According to Dr. Shoukat Zaman, Senior Director of KMC, owing to the shortage of funds the administration is facing shortage of fuel for the spray vehicles while difficulties are being faced in purchase of medicines prescribed by the World Health Organization.Due to shortage of funds, those areas’ turn comes again after three months of previous anti-dengue spray, added Dr. Shoukat Zaman. The KMC administration has informed that 36 more vehicles have been imported for dengue prevention spray. It is expected that after these vehicles’ addition in spray campaign pace of the anti-dengue spray drive will turn fast in the city.
