‘Dengue emergency’ in Punjab after monsoon downpour

LAHORE: Following fresh monsoon rains in the province, the Punjab government has started fumigation and medicinal sprays to prevent growth of mosquitoes causing dengue fever, SAMAA reported.Despite weekly holiday on Sunday, government offices and educational instructions remained opened in Punjab as health teams carried out fogging spray at residential areas and government buildings in small and large towns of the province.Health officials said medical staff and doctors had been directed to provide all-out healthcare facilities to the patients in all government hospitals.Dengue larvae was also traced and eliminated at different spots during the anti-dengue campaign.Government teams in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and other cities distributed pamphlets/handbills among the people for awareness on dengue virus and the precautionary measures to avert its spread.Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the officials to use all resources to control the outbreak of dengue virus in Lahore and other cities of Punjab following the late monsoon downpour. — SAMAA
