Staff ReportISLAMABAD: A larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC) will commence hearing of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) Implementation case as the government is unwilling to write the Swiss letter.Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Irfan Qadir will showcase the viewpoint of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf who led the government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) indisposed to write a letter to Swiss authorities to re-open the graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. The present government, guided by President Zardari, termed the Swiss letter as the trial of grave of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.Earlier, the court formed a larger bench to hear NRO implementation case today i.e. July 12 – the deadline for the new PM to tell if he would ask Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against the president and others. The five-member larger bench will be headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, and comprise Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Ather Saeed.A three-member bench headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, during the last hearing on June 27, asked Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to submit his reply on the issue of letter to the Swiss authorities in two weeks time. The court said in its order that the new prime minister, it is hoped, will honor the direction given by this court.Justice Nisar said, “In the meantime we direct the attorney general to obtain instructions from the prime minister and inform the court… on the next date of the hearing on July 12.”It should be mentioned here that the court dismissed Yousuf Raza Gilani as prime minister on June 19, after his conviction on contempt charge in April for refusing to reopen the multi-million-dollar cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. The government insists the president has immunity and it cannot initiate any action against him as long as he is in office. SAMAA / AGENCIESPlease click ‘Video’ button to watch this news.
