Another electricity bomb in the making; NEPRA moved for power hike

Staff ReportISLAMABAD: Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) Wednesday requested National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to raise power tariffs by two rupees per unit.According to the NEPRA, the purchasing agency moved the regulatory authority to hike power tariffs by two rupees/unit under fuel adjustment for the month of April.The NEPRA officials say electricity amounting 6.57 billion units were sold to distributing companies during April; 41 percent of power was produced from costly furnace oil. The reference fuel cost of the electricity for April was Rs.7.69 per unit. The fuel cost on the power generation was was Rs. 9.69. It should be mentioned here that it was just yesterday when the NEPRA hiked power tariffs by Rs. 2.38/ unit for month of February and March. SAMAA
