Staff ReportKARACHI: The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) was observed across the country with religious solemnity amid a sorrowful incident: blast in a procession at Khanpur which left more than 15 people dead and over 30 injured here on Sunday, SAMAA reports. In Lahore, central procession emerged from Mochi Gate and culminated at Gamy Shah after passing its traditional routes. In Rawalpindi, six central processions were taken out from Imam Bargah Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah, New Sarafa Bazar and other points amid tight security. In Peshawar, the chehlum processions were taken out Imam Bargah Hussain Abad, and Imam Bargah Akhwad Abad Kucha Risaldar and culminated after passing through its traditional routes. The similar processions were also taken out in big and small cities of the country to remember the sacrifice of Imam Hussain and his family in Karbala. The untoward incident took place in Khanpur town where at least 15 persons were killed and 30 others injured in a blast which officials initially said caused by electrical installations. The bomb blast took place in an electricity transformer near City Police Station in Khanpur, leaving 15 persons killed and 30 injured. The electric transformer blasted after a very high steel coated Alam (flag) pole collided with high tension electricity wires in a chehlum procession near Darbar-e-Hussaini in Khanpur. The rescue teams rushed to the scene and started moving the dead bodies and injured to hospitals while the security men cordoned off the area.
