Karachi faces 122 MW power deficit

Staff Report

KARACHI: Karachi demands 2142 MW of electricity but KESC is providing only 2020, said sources Tuesday.

KESC is borrowing 625 MW from WAPDA, 112 MW from Tapal, 108 MW from Gul Ahmed and 68 MW from Defence Cogen. Karachi still faces a shortage of 122 MW of electricity. There is an hour-long load shedding after every four to five hours.

A KESC spokesperson said that there is electricity shortage because Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is not providing adequate amount of gas for electricity generation. SAMAA
