LHC takes up Hafiz Saeed appeal

Staff Report

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court will be taking up today, Monday, an application filed by the founder of the banned Jamaat-ud Dawa Hafiz Saeed challenging the allegation that he was involved in terrorism.

The two-member bench comprises Justices Asif Saeed Khosa and Najmul Hasan and the hearing is likely to take place at noon.

Hafiz Saeed, who India has accused of being behind the Mumbai attacks, has taken the stand that a police case was registered against him in Faislabad's Peoples Colony police station for inciting hatred. According to the charges, he gave a speech at a gathering, urging people to follow certain verses in the Quran and unite against the US, Israel, India and other international forces.

Hafiz Saeed has argued in the application that the FIR was registered more than 19 days after the incident. He argued that India has been constantly pressuring Pakistan to register cases against him and this was the result of that pressure.

He appealed that the police case be withdrawn. SAMAA
