Hafiz Saeed appeals terrorism accusation

Staff Report

LAHORE: The founder of the banned Jamaat-ud Dawa Hafiz Saeed has filed an application in the Lahore High Court against the allegation that he was involved in terrorism.

Hafiz Saeed, who India has accused of being behind the Mumbai attacks, has taken the stand that a police case was registered against him in Faislabad's Peoples Colony police station for inciting hatred. According to the charges, he gave a speech at a gathering, urging people to follow certain verses in the Quran and unite against the US, Israel, India and other international forces.

Hafiz Saeed has argued in the application that the FIR was registered more than 19 days after the incident. He argued that India has been constantly pressuring Pakistan to register cases against him and this was the result of that pressure.

He appealed that the police case be withdrawn. SAMAA
