Case filed against Hafiz Saeed

By Manan Ashraf

FAISALABAD: The Pakistani authorities have registered two cases banned Jamaat-ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, who founded the Lashkar-e Toiba that India has blamed for the Mumbai attacks.

He has been charged with making incendiary speeches against the Pakistan government and for collecting funds.

Hafiz Saeed was detained after the Mumbai attacks after a UN Security Council resolution put him on a list of people and organizations supporting al Qaeda. However, the Lahore High Court freed him in June, prompting an outcry from beyond the border. The government of Pakistan’s appeal against the decision is pending the Supreme Court. On Aug 3, the matter was adjourned.

A spokesman for the JD Mohammad Yahya Mujahid has said that the government has registered the case under the anti-terrorism act. SAMAA
