ISLAMABAD: Following is the text of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's message on Youm-e- Ashur 2009/1430 Hijra.

TEXT BEGINS:

“The month of Muharram-ul-Haram has historically sacred importance since ages. It is the month to pay respects to the martyrs of Karbala, and to the month’s own blessings and benediction.

However, the Muharram's sanctity has been acknowledged even before the Karbala incident as mentioned by the Holy Qur'an. Weapons used to be laid down in this sacred month, and special prayers were offered.

The family of Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) under the leadership of the Prophet's grandson Hazrat Imam Hussain sacrificed their lives on 10th Muharram to uphold the democratic values of Islam, and made the Youm-e-Ashur a sacred remembrance for all future ages.

Today is the day to pledge to continue following the great principles of the family of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), and their mission and vision, which is a guarantee to peace, prosperity, development and blessings.

In view of today's sacred importance, I invite all the countrymen indiscriminately and say that let us join our hands to eliminate sectarianism, extremism and violence from the country in accordance with its objective and ideology, and defeat the anti-state elements. Inshallah, we will succeed in our sincere collective effort, and the country will enjoy the spirits of mutual unity, fraternity, sacrifice and discipline. With Allah Almighty's blessings and help, this country will live forever as an exemplary democratic state.

Keeping in mind the sanctity of this day and the martyrdom of Hazrat Muhammad's family, I pray that May Allah Almighty protect us from the evil designs of enemies, eradicate terrorism and extremism, and guard us from covetousness and meanness. May He help and guide us and grant stability and prosperity.

May Allah Almighty help and protect us all.”'
