The State Bank of Pakistan won’t issue fresh currency notes on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, it said Monday.
The decision was made by the central bank’s committee on Covid-19, the SBP said in a circular.
The central bank would also not issue fresh notes to its current and former employees and subsidiaries.
It advised all chief managers to disseminate the instructions to concerned officials.
“The bank will continue to print notes casually,” said SBP spokesperson Qamar Zaman.
“But it will not print and distribute new notes for Eid, like it does every year.”
The central bank said it is making sure that only the most essential and critical operations are being undertaken in the office, leaving a majority of the workforce to work from home.
