The World AIDS Day is being observed on Friday across the globe with the theme “My Health, My Right”.
According to the United Nations, 36.7 million people globally are living with HIV while 1.8 million people became newly infected with HIV last year.
The report said one million people have also died of AIDS-related illnesses during last year.
In his message on the World AIDS Day, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif stressed the need for an effective awareness campaign about the deadly disease, to educate people about its prevention and precautionary measures.
He said Punjab government has provided the facility of free medicines and tests to the patients under its AIDS Control Programme. – APP
