The Indian Army has started a major mobilisation of military tanks and deployed troops along the international border in Rajasthan and Punjab, Times of India reported Monday.
Armoured formations from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were deployed to border outposts, the report said.
The development comes amid reports of clashes between Pakistani and Indian forces along the Line of Control.
Tensions between Pakistan and India rose after Indian planes violated Pakistani airspace and released their payload inside Pakistan’s territory last month.
In response, Pakistan shot down two Indian planes in Kashmir. One plane crashed in the Kohi Rata sector of Azad Kashmir while one crashed in Indian-Administered Kashmir’s Budgam area. A pilot of the Indian Air Force, identified as Abhinandan, was also taken into custody. However, he was released as a “gesture of peace”.
