British woman jailed for calling ex-husband’s wife a ‘horse’

April 8, 2019

A British woman is facing two years in jail in Dubai for calling her ex-husband’s wife a “horse” on Facebook, reported BBC.

Laleh Sharavesh, 55, lives in London but she was arrested at a Dubai airport while she flew there to attend her former spouse’s funeral.

She is being prosecuted over the comments she posted on pictures of her husband’s second marriage in 2016.

Sharavesh was married to him for 18 years. The two lived in the UAE when they were married.
She returned to the UK after her divorce. She brought her daughter with her too, while the husband stayed in the UAE.

The woman found out about her husband’s second marriage on Facebook.

“I hope you go under the ground you idiot. Damn you. You left me for this horse,” she wrote in the comments.

A person can be jailed or fined for making defamatory statements on social media.

Shahravesh could be sentenced to up to two years in prison or fined £50,000, despite the 55-year-old writing the Facebook posts while in the UK.
