Lawyer Zuzana Caputova has been elected as the first woman president in Slovakia.

Caputova has been a vocal critic of the government and she contested the elections with the slogan “Stand Up to Evil”. She was largely unknown before she launcher her presidential run.

She won the election with 58.3% votes after results from 98.1% of voting were counted.

“I am happy not just for the result but mainly that it is possible not to succumb to populism, to tell the truth, to raise interest without aggressive vocabulary,” the 45-year-old said while speaking to the media, according to Al Jazeera.

She gained prominence as a lawyer, when she led a case against an illegal landfill lasting 14 years, reported BBC.

The official results will be announced on Sunday.
