Millions of Muslims staged passionate mourning ceremonies in commemoration of the day in history that witnessed the martyrdom of the icon of sacrifice – Hazrat Imam Hussain Razi Allah ho Ta'ala Anho.
Yaum-e-Ashur, the tenth of Moharram, was not only observed in the Muslim world but also in Europe where the faithful paid homage to supreme sacrifices rendered by the martyrs of Karbala.
On Sunday, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, traveling from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Lebanon and many other countries, descended on Karbala (Iraq), with officials putting their numbers at 3 million.
