SULAWESI: Villagers were able to recover the body of a missing Indonesian farmer from the belly of a giant python, who had apparently been swallowed whole by the serpent.

A giant snake attracted some villagers who saw it slithering awkwardly in the Salubiro village located at the western side of the island Sulawesi. The body of the 25-year-old farmer named Akbar was recovered from the belly of the serpent after villagers caught it.

“We were immediately suspicious that the snake had swallowed Akbar because around the site we found palm fruit, his harvesting tool and a boot,” said a village official.

As per details obtained from the villagers, Akbar had gone missing on Sunday which had alarmed his relatives. The fatality was a unique one in the region, since the farmer had been swallowed whole by the snake.

The 23 feet long python is found in Indonesia and Philippines but are known to attack small animals more frequently. Attacks on human beings or such cases are rare.

A picture of the serpent showing the body of Akbar inside the snake, was also released by Indonesian police.
